Have you ever heard of spessartite?
Do you know what the color of spessartite is?
Spessartite is a mandarin orange colored garnet
The name spessartite derives from the German region of Spessart, in western Germany, of which both the mineral and the rock originate.
Spessartite garnet is ideochromatic, which means it is colored by a fundamental element in its composition. That element is manganese, which produces an orange color.
This gem comes in three color variations. There are the light and bright orange gems, which come from Nigeria and California, the deeper reddish orange gems that also come from Nigeria. Finally, there are the magnificent Namibian “mandarin” orange garnets, which are considered to be of a superior level.
